referred to below may possibly provide the

accommodation required, but the departments which are

to be homeless must be given prior consideration in

the adaption of the building which will have to be

arranged by the Fublic Works Department.

3. With the early completion of the new

Sailors' Home and Seamen's Institute on Inland Lot

No.2899 the opportunity has occurred of acquiring the

old building and the site on which it stands viz.,

Marine Lot No. 295 for the sum of $185,000.

Alterations necessary to adapt the building for

offices are estimated to cost about $12,000.

figure is considered reasonable, and the Finance

Committee to whom the matter was referred unanimously

approved the purchase.

It is proposed, subject to your approval,

to acquire the property as from 1st January next.

I should therefore be glad if I might receive your

authorization by telegraph to complete the

transaction.
